Do Teeth Connect to Specific Organs?

Understanding “Dental Meridian Charts”

What Are Dental Meridian Charts?

You may have come across charts suggesting that each tooth is connected to a specific organ in the body—such as the liver, heart, or kidneys. These concepts originate from traditional healing systems and are sometimes used to explain broader health concerns.

Is This Scientifically Proven?

No.

Current medical and dental research has not found reliable evidence that individual teeth are directly linked to specific organs in this way.

  • There are no known anatomical pathways connecting a single tooth to a specific organ

  • Scientific studies have not demonstrated consistent or reproducible links between particular teeth and diseases elsewhere in the body

What Is Supported by Evidence?

While teeth are not mapped to individual organs, your oral health and overall health are closely connected in important ways.

Research shows that:

  • Gum disease (inflammation) can affect the entire body

  • Oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream

  • There are established links between oral health and:

    • Heart disease

    • Diabetes

    • Respiratory conditions

    • Pregnancy outcomes

These are systemic (whole-body) relationships—not one-to-one connections between a tooth and an organ.

Why Do Some People Believe These Charts?

  • They are rooted in long-standing traditional practices

  • They offer a simplified way to understand complex health conditions

  • Some individuals notice patterns that feel personally meaningful
